Rumors Suggest iPad Gen 12 Will Feature A19 Chip, iPad Mini A17 Pro
Rumors surrounding Apple’s upcoming iPad lineup are intensifying, with new software leaks suggesting significant upgrades for both the base iPad and the iPad mini. Initially, the iPad (A16) was expected to launch in the spring of 2027, while the iPad mini (A17 Pro) was anticipated this fall.
iPad Gen 12 to Receive A19 Processor
Contrary to earlier reports indicating an A18 chip, MacRumors’ analysis of Apple’s code suggests the base iPad will instead utilize the A19 processor, previously found in the iPhone 17. This upgrade will also include 8GB of RAM, promising a substantial performance boost and support for Apple Intelligence.

iPad Mini A17 Pro and Design Changes
The iPad mini (A17 Pro) is now widely believed to feature the A20 Pro chip, mirroring that of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo. Furthermore, leaked images indicate a potential shift in the front camera’s placement to the long side of the display, accompanied by a small groove for a speaker. Rumors also point to a new vibration-based speaker and water resistance.

Display Refresh Rate Concerns
Despite these potential improvements, concerns are being raised regarding the iPad mini’s display refresh rate, with some users on Reddit expressing reservations about the continued use of a 60Hz refresh rate, particularly in comparison to the iPhone Duo’s advancements.
